Reader, Do you have a clear vision of who it is or what it is that you're trying to become? Do you know what it looks like or feels like? Do you know why? I've been thinking a lot about the future lately, and a lot about all my daily and weekly and monthly habits and choices and decisions that directly impact that future. Or should I say, completely make up that future. While I do think that so many of the things I'm doing now are in direct alignment of the person that I want to be in the future that I’ve been dreaming of, there's absolutely room for improvement and refinement, and there's also so much room for me to get an even clearer picture of who I want to be, how I can get there, and how I can weave new choices and decisions into my life right now to make it a reality. When you have a clear vision and a clear direction to move in, you can carve out a path to get there, navigate days and circumstances and decisions as they arise, and you can course correct when you need to. This morning, I reflected on the importance of all of this. I started journaling from the prompt: “The person I want to become would…” and filled in the blanks with actions and choices that align with my future self, starting with "she." She would ___. She does ___. She chooses x over y. You get the point. I imagined someone who wakes up early, goes to bed early, too, and I imagined someone who organizes and meditates and reads before bed, instead of mindlessly scrolling on social media. I imagined someone who doesn’t compare themselves to others and focuses on their own growth instead. They say no to things that aren’t aligned and spend time on activities and passions and hobbies that fill them up and benefit in the long run. They walk daily, get plenty of sun and fresh air, move their body in ways they enjoy, they work out (even when they don’t want to), and embrace fear, challenges and discomfort. They stay focused on important goals. They aim to do better and be better. They invest in fulfilling relationships and communicate well with loved ones, even when life gets stressful and overwhelming. They prioritize protein, veggies, fruit, and fiber, but they also enjoy life and food with balance. They make thoughtful decisions and tradeoffs that help them create a healthy lifestyle for the long term. I could go into more details when it comes to what they look like and where they live and how it all feels, but I think you get the point. Creating a detailed vision like this can help me and you take the steps needed to become the people that we want to be. I encourage you to take 10-15 minutes today to journal about your best self. What choices does that person make? How do they spend their time? What do they value? And how can you work to be that person starting right now? See you next week, 💕 Morgan |
