Reader, My flight got cancelled. The airline didn’t offer me a hotel credit. I took a big detour to SFO and hoped that my next flight home would go out the next morning. They forced me to gate check my bag even though I had an overnight layover. The lady at the gate to my last flight was unnecessarily rude, despite my smile and shield of optimism that protected the part of me that was crying (and the part of my that cried for a few minutes in IRL, too - it was necessary 😂). Plus I was sooooo hungry because my packed “lunch” of a protein bar & banana didn’t account for an extra 6 hours of travel time. Despite all of that, I knew I had the power to choose how I responded. I could make decisions that reflected the harsh nature of the reality of the events around me. Or I could make decisions that reflected who I was and who I wanted to be. I decided to go with the latter. I was soooooo tempted to grab a big bag of chips and candy and eat my feelings away, but I told myself “no” and decided to act with control, awareness, and intention. I acknowledged my hunger and decided I wanted to be someone who nourishes my body when I’m tired and stressed and hungry, so that’s what I did. My salad was filling and really delicious and so good that I’m going to recreate it later. I could have been angry and mean and closed off to the world around me, but I decided to be warm and open and friendly instead. Some people were nice in return and I sent more love and light to all the others, because they needed it. I could have assumed the worst and looked for more things to go wrong around me (because if that’s what you’re looking for, you will always find more) but I decided to focus on the positive instead. And here’s the thing — the rest of my travel day/night went really well and my travel day today went perfectly smooth. My credit card has delay insurance, so I bought a wonderful room in a really nice hotel & fresh salad for dinner and I’ll be paid back after I submit a claim. I got to the Centurion lounge this morning and had a fresh, healthy, filling breakfast (fruit, hard boiled eggs, and steel cut oatmeal), got some work done, and had a generally good start to my day. I had nice, cheerful flight attendants on today’s flight. I don’t have any scary emails after a week away on my team retreat last week and some other really great things are happening at work. I’m working with Steven Bartlett’s team and he sent his first newsletter today! And I’m now working with Tom Brady’s team on his newsletter that also just launched. How cool is that?! And finally, my feet are safely on the ground in Sun Valley, Idaho, and that is more than enough to be grateful for. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families and loved ones of those taken too soon in the recent plane crashes. So, Reader, the next time you’re triggered or stressed or inconvenienced or angry or upset… The next time you’re tempted to yell or binge eat or self sabotage or give yourself negative self talk or be rude or assume the worst in people or the world around you… Ask yourself — how would the person that I want to become react? What would they tell themselves? What would they do? What would they say? How would they treat others around them? 💕Morgan PS - If you caught my Instagram post, you know that this was supposed to go out last week. Turns out I accidentally scheduled it for next month instead. What month is it again?? Anyway, we all make mistakes. I could have just not shared it and pretended I didn't mess up and write something new this week instead, but I figured acting now and with integrity are ways of living of the person that I want to be.
